Who is NCM?
Mission
Connecting students to God through Christ. Connecting students to authentic community. Connecting students to the greatest needs of the world.
Vision
Reaching every student on every campus with the Gospel.
NW Collegiate Ministries is a campus based college ministry that has been connecting college students with Jesus for over 70 years. NCM is on community college and university campuses across Oregon, Washington, and Northern Idaho. We are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit religious organization.
Our Approach to Ministry
-
Spiritual surveys, tabling, “ask me a question” events, conversations with friends. While every campus employs different methods, all are united in their passion for sharing the Good News of Jesus with college students! No discipline is more critical to reaching the lost than evangelism and is thus on the front of the minds of all our staff. We also believe that sharing your faith is not just for those on staff and so equipping our students for a lifetime of evangelism is a top priority.
-
Jesus’ final command to his followers was to “make disciples.” Whereas the goal of evangelism is to win people to Jesus, the goal of discipleship is to prepare them for a lifetime of following Jesus. It is within discipleship that we walk alongside our students as they learn to read the Bible, pray, share their faith, and grow closer to Jesus. We then release them for a lifetime of discipling others!
-
One of the goals of NCM is to raise up the next generation of Church leaders. While spiritual health is a vital component to being a good leader, it is not the full picture. It is for this reason that NCM also seeks to help students develop their leadership skills. All of our ministries have student leaders who are actively involved in the planning and carrying out of NCM’s mission. They lead small groups and worship, prepare and teach breakouts, and help train the next generation of NCM student leaders. By giving students an opportunity to lead now, we are able to provide safe spaces for them to grow, and fail, as we coach them through the process.
-
While the Pacific Northwest is one of the most un-churched areas of the country we want our students to think bigger than just their city. All believers are called to play a role in taking the Gospel to the nations, and we strive for our students to understand their part in that process. Whether they send, pray, mobilize, welcome international students, or go on a spring break or summer mission trip we desire that all students be involved in the mission of taking the Gospel to the unreached.
-
Being involved in a church is crucial to the spiritual development of every believer, and as we are not a church we seek to partner with local churches in a myriad of ways. We encourage all of our students to be regularly involved in a local church. We also look for opportunities to invite churches into our mission of engaging college students in their city, while also looking for opportunities to come alongside churches to help them fulfill their vision of reaching their community.
Statement of Faith
Trinity
We believe in one God, the creator of all things, who is infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus became flesh and is thus fully deity and fully man. After His crucifixion and resurrection he ascended to take His place at the right hand of God to intercede for humanity. Following His ascension the Holy Spirit came to earth and indwells every follower of Jesus.
Salvation
We believe that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received through faith in Jesus Christ whose blood was shed on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus we are set free from sin and death. Those who repent (turn from their sin and make Jesus their King) and believe will be brought into relationship with God.
Bible
We believe that all 66 books of scripture were written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, are void of error in their original manuscripts and are to be viewed as the supreme authority in all matters of faith and our everyday lives. It is through the Scriptures that God has revealed His character and nature, and by knowing the Scriptures we can better know God.
Church
We believe that the Church is not just a building but is made up of all who have been saved by Jesus throughout the generations and have become followers of Jesus Christ. The church is for all people at all stages of life and exists to worship and glorify God, and to make His name known to those who have not heard. As NCM is focused wholly on college students we are not a church, so we seek to connect students to a local church body.
Great Commission
We believe it is the duty and privilege of every follower of Christ to make disciples of all nations. Because this is the duty of all believers we see it as a joy to train and send college students to their campuses, families, communities, the US, and to the many nations beyond that have never heard about the saving grace of Jesus Christ to share their faith and make disciples.
Restoration
We believe that God created the world whole and very good; when sin left the world broken and full of evil, God did not abandon His creation. He has promised to make all things new. Jesus brought the possibility of restoration through His defeat of death. Although we do not yet see all of His restoration revealed, we look with hope toward the completion of His restoration at the end of days.
